First sight of the Taj Mahal is at the main entrance, where it is framed in the arch. This is the WOW moment. It's said to be a monument of love of Shah Jahan for his wife Mumtaz Mahal and it certainly is impressive. But for some reason, I got the impression it's more a visible show of the wealth and power of Jahan. (See his pavilion at the Red Fort in Delhi to compare). He's also interred here, next to Mumtaz.
The throngs of visitors somehow detract from but also add to the experience, especially if you want to get that Diana shot on the bench. It seems be the place newly weds go for their wedding photos, including bride and groom, friends of bride, friends of groom, mother of groom etc. and when it's your turn, they can't keep out of your picture.
The marble fascia was being cleaned, with one minaret under scaffolding. Strangely, the cleaned areas were greyer than the untouched marble. Nevertheless, the building is blinding and it's symmetry perfect. The gardens and water features are immaculate with added features of the colourful Saris worn by the ladies wandering about.
Overall - a must see once in a lifetime experience.
Unbelievable in person! Tour with a knowledgeable guide!
A group of four of us toured at sunrise on a Sunday with Gupta -- a fantastic guide-historian, and his knowledge added many levels of understanding to the experience! We could not believe our eyes upon seeing the craftsmanship and symmetry that was commissioned in 1632 by the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan. Be sure to see the interior as well as every side of the exterior. The pool in front had been drained, and some restoration work was being done, but it didn't affect our experience. Truly a wonder and a must-see once in a lifetime!
What a magnificent construction made by Emperor Shah Jahan in the love of his wife Mum Taj. Till date one of the most beautiful monument in the world. The Taj dont need more descriptions. A day trip from Delhi is enough for tourist to enjoy the Taj. Just avoid the summers as it becomes too hot.

A must visit place for everyone
As kids, we all have dreamt of visiting the Taj Mahal once, and today, finally it’s a dream come true for me. As soon as I cross the red gate, I finally saw the beautiful white marble monument. It's a long walk to reach the Taj Mahal but every step is worth it. As I get inside, the hard work of laborers was clearly visible. Every piece of marble had either some beautiful carvings or paintings on it. The love Shah Jahan had for Mumtaz was clearly felt.
There are 22 pillars around the monument because it is said that it took 22 years to build this 7th wonder. It’s a gigantic monument with the scenery at every corner. As I reached the back side, the view got more beautiful. The river Yamuna flows behind the Mahal. It’s more beautiful than we have seen in our books and other photos. Beside the Mahal is the red mosque.
It’s a must-visit place for you, at least once in your lifetime. It gives you chills as you reach closer and closer. I had a great trip and I wish you all the same.
The Taj Mahal is an iconic monument located in the city of Agra, India. It is widely considered one of the world's greatest architectural masterpieces, and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The Taj Mahal is situated in a large, open, park-like setting, which allows for stunning views of the building from many angles. The monument itself is made entirely of white marble, which gives it a striking and timeless appearance. The intricate details and intricate carvings on the building are truly breathtaking, and are a testament to the skill and dedication of the artisans who worked on the project.
Visitors to the Taj Mahal can explore the complex at their own pace, taking in the many beautiful features of the building and the surrounding gardens. The interior of the Taj Mahal is equally impressive, with stunning mosaics and intricate carvings adorning the walls and ceilings.
In addition to its architectural and aesthetic qualities, the Taj Mahal is also a deeply meaningful symbol of love and devotion. The building was commissioned by Emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal, and is considered one of the greatest expressions of love ever created.
Overall, the Taj Mahal is a must-see destination for anyone interested in architecture, history, or culture. Its stunning beauty and profound meaning make it an unforgettable experience, and one that should not be missed
